The Symposium came to a close with “Black Comp and the Liquidity of Distance,” an endnote by painter Torkwase Dyson that explored the transhistorical conditions of water infrastructure and how the expansion of extractive industries shapes geographies, water wars, and the ethical engineering needed to build new worlds. Dyson grounded her talk in Black Compositional Thought (Black Comp), her framework for aesthetic abstraction that explores how paths, throughways, and architectures are composed through Black life in the absence of stability.
